A mysterious baby is discovered washed ashore and raised by a caring family of centaurs on the Greek island of Zakynthos, where she grows up knowing little of her human origins. Named Halo, her idyllic childhood ends when she’s captured by fishermen and thrust into a violent world of war, slavery, and political intrigue across ancient Greece—from Sparta’s brutal military to Athens’ more cultured society. To survive, she disguises herself as a boy, training as a hoplite and learning medicine while searching for clues about her birth and the tattoo marking her forehead. Along the way, Halo befriends Spartans like Leonidas, visits the Delphic oracle, and uncovers her true identity among powerful Athenian bloodlines. As wars rage and plague sweeps the land, she must reconcile her dual heritage and decide where she truly belongs.
