James Bond is reactivated by “M” as a troubleshooter in the 1980s, despite the official dismantlement of the “00” section. His mission: infiltrate the stronghold of nuclear physicist Dr. Anton Murik, aka the Laird of Murcaldy, suspected of planning a coordinated terrorist attack on six power plants. Assuming the cover of a mercenary, Bond earns Murik’s trust at Ascot before traveling to Scotland, where he uncovers a web of nuclear blackmail and a plot orchestrated with capo Franco and Murik’s ward, Lavender. In a tense finale, Bond prevents a global meltdown and confronts Murik in a sky-bound showdown. Outwitting an unhinged mastermind, he saves the world—and possibly gains a new ally (and more)—before the dust settles.
